Process Automation ROI Calculator
Estimate what your manual processes cost each year —in time and errors— and the ROI of automating them with process automation. See your potential annual savings, ROI and payback period. Instantly, no signup.
Describe the process, how many people are involved and how much time it takes. The estimate updates automatically. All values are in US dollars (USD).
Add it to calculate ROI and payback period.
This is a directional estimate. In an assessment we analyze the real process and its automation feasibility. See process automation →
Methodology and assumptions
- Process cost: people × hours/week × 52 weeks × cost per hour.
- Error cost: errors/month × 12 × cost to fix one error.
- Total annual cost: process cost + error cost.
- Estimated savings: 40%–70% of the total, depending on the process, how standardized it is and the solution chosen (automation, integration or custom software).
- ROI: (annual savings at ~55% − investment) ÷ investment. Payback: investment ÷ (annual savings ÷ 12).
This is an order-of-magnitude estimate, not a financial projection. For a serious estimate we review your process with process automation or a digital transformation assessment.
Frequently asked questions
What is process automation ROI?
It is the return you get from automating a manual process: the time and error costs you eliminate, compared to the investment required to automate it.
How is this estimate calculated?
We calculate the annual cost of the process (people × hours × cost per hour) plus the cost of errors, then estimate the savings from automation (40–70%) and, if you add an investment, the ROI and payback period. All assumptions are in the "Methodology" section.
What is a manual process?
A process that runs with human intervention and basic tools (spreadsheets, email, documents, manual validations) instead of a system that automates it.
What is a good ROI for automation?
It depends on the process, but a payback period under 12 months is usually a strong case. In the calculator, add your estimated investment to see both ROI and payback.
Is automation worth it for a small business?
Often yes, if a process is repetitive, high-volume or error-prone. Start with a pilot to validate results before a larger investment. We assess this in process automation consulting.
Want to automate that process?
We analyze the process, calculate the real savings and recommend the right solution: automation, integration or custom software.
